Pre Responder vs Observe and Report Guard

A word from our CEO

There are approximately 720,000 full-time police officers and over 1.2 million security guards currently employed in the United States. Yet, 97% of security companies provide only “observe and report” guards. These guards are not trained to respond to threats or intervene during a crime. Their role is to step back, watch, and call the police.

Recently, I spoke with an armed security guard at a local bank and asked what type of training he had received from his company. His answer was simple: “None.” Unfortunately, this is all too common. I meet guards every day seeking to work for Sec1 who come from other companies with no meaningful training.

Three Ways to Strengthen Your Security Strategy

  • Conduct a security risk audit – Identify where your current guard services fall short, particularly in response capability, and highlight gaps that could expose you to liability.
  • Invest in people-first protection – Prioritize security providers who emphasize training that protects both your assets and the individuals on site, not just property.
  • Adopt a proactive security mindset – Shift from a “wait and watch” approach to a readiness model where your team is equipped to deter, de-escalate, and respond before threats escalate.

Sec1 Security Pre-Responders are not security guards

They are highly trained, certified professionals with expertise in:

  • Conflict resolution and threat de-escalation
  • Use of force and civil liability awareness
  • Handcuffing, baton, and OC spray deployment
  • Berna Pepper Ball systems
  • Advanced firearms training
  • And much more

Unlike traditional guards, Sec1 Security – Pre-Responders are on scene before the incident occurs. If something does happen, they are capable and prepared to step in and protect you while police are en route.

Sec1 Pre-Responders bridge the gap between untrained “observe and report” guards and sworn law enforcement officers.

Pro Tip

A security team of pre-responders will be able to discuss their standard operating procedures for a variety of potential threats and incidents.

Respond Before an Incident Happens

If your only need is someone to watch a building, then an observe-and-report guard will suffice. But if you are responsible for protecting people, property, and assets—and want to reduce your exposure to costly lawsuits—you need more than a guard.

You need a Sec1 Security – Pre-Responder.
